Citric acid
Citric acid is a commonly used, food-safe, and environmentally friendly solution for cleaning reverse osmosis (RO) membranes, particularly for removing calcium carbonate and other mineral scales.
Descaling:
Citric acid reacts with calcium carbonate and other mineral scales, dissolving them and making them easier to flush away.
Reversing Membrane Swelling:
It can also help reverse membrane swelling, potentially tightening pores and improving performance.
Concentration:
A typical solution for RO membrane cleaning is 2-3% citric acid (20-30g per liter of RO permeate or demineralized water).
Cleaning Process:
The solution is circulated through the membrane system, soaked for 30-60 minutes, and then flushed with clean water
